ποΈβ¨ Marbella Embraces Flexible Urban Development in New PGOM β¨ποΈ
Marbella’s urban planning enters a new era with the recently approved General Plan for Municipal Planning (PGOM), marking a significant milestone for the city. Mayor Γngeles MuΓ±oz, accompanied by councillor JosΓ© Eduardo DΓaz, introduced the ambitious roadmap on May 28, signaling a transformative phase in the city’s future growth.
The PGOM introduces innovative measures to expand urban areas by nearly 13 million square meters, a substantial increase from the 1986 General Urban Development Plan (PGOU). This growth aims to streamline regulations and enhance flexibility in land use, particularly in rural areas. MuΓ±oz emphasized, “The PGOM enables strategic projects that enrich our city, accommodating developments crucial for Marbella’s economic vitality and community well-being.” π³ποΈ
Following initial approval last year, which saw objections and refinements, the PGOM now integrates approximately 1% more urban land, totaling between 53 to 54 million square meters across Marbella. This expansion aligns with AndalucΓa’s sustainability initiatives, fostering balanced growth through comprehensive urban and development plans.
Highlighting the plan’s impact, MuΓ±oz underscored the flexibility of rural areas to host diverse ventures such as universities, sports facilities, and unique tourism projects. “This document not only addresses housing needs but also promotes economic activity, job creation, and prosperity,” MuΓ±oz noted, envisioning a dynamic urban landscape that meets present and future challenges with resilience. ποΈπΏ
